I can understand cruelty, ruthlessness. Curiosity. I don't understand how people can be completely blind to it in front of them; maybe it was fear but...I remember my father talking about when Buchenwald was liberated, the Allies marched the neighboring village through it to see what they had been living right next door to. What they had just been accepting.
