Then why did you do it?

[velocette]

I was a dumb kid. I thought he was a harbinger of the end--that was still when I thought I could save people from themselves. I realized the truth after he was already dead. [He's very nonchalant about it, and honestly so, with no bravado in the slightest.]

The other guy was incidental. He was all hopped up and I knew he wouldn't stop coming at my brother, but I don't think I really meant to kill him. Just one of those things.

[ Harv doesn't say much. He thinks. ]

What was it really like for you, first time you killed? I don't know how much of that file is the Admiral's opinion.

[halftheman]

I was just taking out the trash. Felt good to finally have him out of the picture.

[velocette]

Not uncommon, I guess. People trip over each other, get in each other's way. but that's not how you see it now is it?

[The way he describes that first time is so...goal oriented.]

How do you think I should see it?

...Don't really believe in 'should'. Things are what they are. That's what I want to know about.

They were in my way. I got them out of my way. Murder's just a means to an end.

Yeah but it's like an anvil. Sometimes you get the same end, using a wrench, you know? Gets you fewer detours. At least here, where they're just going to come back to life anyway.

[halftheman]

Here, it doesn't matte. Death's just-- a thing. A not-thing.

Already died once.
